Cyber Security is Constantly Changing
Did you know technology is always evolving?
One of my favorite Seinfeld bits from his stand-up is when he talks about a guy driving down the road with a mattress tied to his roof. He has his arm out the window, helping to hold the mattress to the car. His catchphrase is something like, “Don’t worry guys, I got it, I’m using… my arm”.
I find that as we go through life we get to points where we think we’ve got it. We don’t need to learn anything more on a subject because we have reached the top of our field. That is until someone comes along and shows you that somehow your methods are archaic. You are actually way out of the game and didn’t even know it, and look like the guy holding the mattress.
We have two options at that point. We can either decide that those people must be wrong, and that the way we are doing things is best because that’s how it’s always worked best. The other option is to reason that just because something has always been great, doesn’t mean that there isn’t something better around the corner.
Things are changing!
Looking at just the last 25 years, it’s hard to believe how much has changed, especially when it comes to technology.
Undeniably, technology is rapidly advancing and constantly changing. There are new and improved versions hitting the market almost as soon as the latest ones are released. It can be challenging for individuals to keep up with these ever-evolving advancements, especially when coupled with the threat of cybercrime. While we are still trying to figure out how to log in to the latest tech we purchased, they have have already figured out the best ways to hack into it.
In fact, according to embroker.com, “The average smart device is attacked within five minutes of connecting to the internet, and experts estimate that a smart home with a wide range of IoT devices may be targeted by as many as 12,000 hacking attempts in a single week.”
